Finery

I did purchase one item for myself at the Green Festival {earlier post}. The organization, Project Have Hope, had a table with beautiful handmade paper bead jewelry.

"Project Have Hope works with a group of 100 women in the Acholi Quarter of Uganda and helps them transform their lives and the lives of their families. Through the sale of their beautiful, handmade paper bead jewelry, the women can feed their families, send their children to school, and look forward to a richer future."

Brad told me that my necklace was a total "Leanne purchase." I'm assuming it was a hippie-dippy reference to social justice and sustainable initiatives. So be it. After a little teasing, he admitted he liked the necklace- ha! I think it was ten dollars well spent... lovely piece, wonderful cause.


I found this blue cotton/silk shirt at Goodwill over the weekend- $3.99.
I have luck at Goodwill but I'm not quite as fortunate as Rebekah {Little Byrd Vintage}. I wish we lived closer, I would love to go thrifting with her!

I spent the entire day with my kiddos trying to avoid the dreaded cabin fever of mid-January. We filled the day with many activities. I also played teacher and taught a lesson on Martin Luther King Jr. We listened to excerpts of
"I Have A Dream" and did a worksheet focusing on our own dreams.

"...I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal... I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character..."

Sara and Noah both wrote down something to the extent of...
"I have a dream that people will be happy."

I couldn't agree more.

Choices

One of the vendors at our Earth Festival yesterday was The Enterprising Kitchen. I first learned about TEK during graduate school while conducting research for my architectural thesis. My project focused on a schematic design proposal of a faith-based aftercare facility for female ex-offenders and their children.
